C.A.N., Childbirth Alternative Network got it’s name with an inspirational goal in mind: “You C.A.N. have a better birth experience!”. We are a thriving midwifery practice that offers excellence in prenatal, labor, birth and postpartum care for expectant women and their newborns encompassing a 1 ½ - 2 hr. radius in Northern Colorado. We adhere to the MANA standards of professional midwifery care and are licensed in the State of Colorado for the practice of homebirth midwifery.

There are far too many medical interventions imposed on many healthy individuals today in America’s hospital maternity beds, or for a more trendy word – family birthing centers. Happily, a resurge of Direct entry midwives, Certified nurse midwives, Monitrices, Doulas, and others are on the rise, serving women at home, alternative birthing centers (ABC’s), and in hospitals with impressive results.

In our earlier days, we grew from a small supporting lay member group of NAPSAC Int’l (The National Association of Parents & Professionals for Safe Alternatives in Childbirth), to encourage and educate the public of other options to compulsory hospitalization with it’s cookie cutter standards of care. We acknowledge that the hospital setting is the wisest and most appropriate place for a small percentage of women and children, yet we uphold evidence based studies that demonstrate for the healthy normal woman, birth can and should take place in either the home or an ABC.

Our vision for future generations of expectant women and their families is to make homebirth midwifery more desirable and available. Our principles to accomplish this is to:

• Promote excellence in prenatal nutrition “for two”
• Impart quality birth education to expectant parents
• Ensure parents the freedom of choice for alternatives to a safe, healthy, natural birth
• Provide skillful, traditional midwifery at home
• Support & encourage mothers to breastfeed their babies with confidence
  

We at Childbirth Alternative Network are a Christ-centered midwifery service that “networks” and fellowships with several other outstanding licensed practitioners whenever the need arises for a backup midwife. We offer a growing variety of related non-medical services and make every effort to “guide gently those who are with young” into a more satisfying and memorable birth experience.
