ABOUT THE MIDWIFE
In 1970 Lynda graduated in San Antonio Texas from nursing school as an LVN (licensed vocational nurse ~ LPN in other states), provided labor and birth care to women and newborns, trained as an OB technician assisting OBs and GPs both vaginal and c/s births, became a certified childbirth educator through ICEA, also a Certified childbirth educator through Informed Homebirth/Informed Birth & Parenting (ALACE). Between 1977 – 1991 she served as a Certified La Leche League Leader, counseling women with breastfeeding, held several offices in her local groups, was a LLL of WV leader applicant trainer, and lead a number of LLL of WV conference sessions, and operated a breast pump depot for over 10 years. Training for homebirth midwifery includes her formal nursing degree and six years hospital experiences of approximately 900 births, and now an additional 500 births in homes. She attended midwifery intensives lead by numerous midwifery instructors, including Anne Frye and Valerie Appleton. During her early practice in Colorado she completed the Fellowship of Christian Midwives curriculum affiliated with the National College of Midwifery in NM for her Midwifery certificate Level IV and interned with Renee Stein, CM. She then passed the entry level North American Registry of Midwives exam given in 1993, and passed her Colorado midwifery exam five months later granting her an active license. She continues applying for CEUs, and maintains certificates in oxygen therapy, CPR, and neonatal resusitation, and participates in regular midwifery peer review. Lynda has trained several apprentices both for local and mission field and offers limited space for aspiring midwives or midwifery assistants for clinic days as well as births.
